“Lex Land”
becomes
Love Letter Music:
details for Bandcamp Supporters

Wonderful and treasured Bandcamp supporters -

Again, THANK YOU for your support and for coming over here to read my full message!

Okay so here are the details…

As a supporter of mine, you likely already know that I have been independently producing releases since about 2015 or so. Around then, I had amassed such volume of songs as a songwriter that I began to splinter the songs off into different projects with discrete genres and themes.

At that time, I attempted to narrow down what was the Lex Land project stylistically toward its jazzier/retro swing elements, and let my other two side projects One Big Dark Room and Moorhaunter have the songs that covered other territory of genre. Because I had three projects I was managing, I released them under the umbrella of my own little record label, Love Letter Records.

Because of the relative popularity and momentum from the earliest Lex Land releases (I was 20 when Orange Days came out!), I've really struggled to anchor the current iteration of this project in the appropriate genre, especially online (data/SEO, algorithmic recommendation engines, etc). So after burnout and frustration and almost quitting music entirely, I've come to the carefully considered decision of just starting fresh with a new project name, and have been working up to it all this year.

I put a lot of work and love into the releases I created myself over the better part of the last decade, so I don't want to lose them while further diluting and confusing the original Lex Land brand. So, my first two albums as Lex Land (Orange Days and Sweetheart, and related releases) will serve exclusively as the entire catalogue for what was the Lex Land project. Everything I had released as Lex Land after my first two albums that were stylistically leaning toward that retro-jazz direction (all new-material releases after 2015 or so) will be re-released under the Holly Frost moniker.

(If you're curious, Holly Frost is a vintage/christmas-y amalgam of some actual family names. Because I perform solo 90% of the time, I felt I needed to keep a feminine name as a stage moniker, rather than altering it to something that sounded more like a "band name.")

To try to limit future confusion and redundant releases, I will be pulling down those newer albums/singles from the Lex Land Bandcamp store. (They are already available at http://hollyfrost.bandcamp.com)

❗️Here's where it gets tricky at Bandcamp specifically:

When you make a purchase from an artist through Bandcamp, Bandcamp gives you *access* to a download for as long as the album is publicly available on their platform. If the album is made unavailable, you lose your ability to download it from Bandcamp. So it's yours forever... once you download it to offsite storage.

Of course I think this is really silly, and I tried to come up with more elegant ways to make this transition as painless as possible for you, but because of the limitations of the platform, this message/post is the best I can do. 😢

If all you have purchased are the original "core" early Lex Land releases, then you don't need to do anything!

If you have purchased anything else from me but haven't downloaded it yet, please do so as soon as possible.

(I’ve listed out the releases down below if you want something that looks more like a list to reference.)

If you missed the window to download it and would like to have your own copy in offline storage, please email me via info@lovelettermusic.com and I will personally send you a link to download whatever you had previously purchased from my site directly. (I was hoping I could message folks individually segmented by what they purchased so that I could just include the links here and not bother anyone unnecessarily, but that was not possible.)

I am shooting to make an "official" 🙄 announcement on social media, etc. about the name change in the coming days, so wanted to give you a personal, early heads-up here, especially since you have supported me in the past and have enabled me to continue making music for all these years!

If you liked the direction this project was going, I have new releases available over at the Holly Frost Bandcamp that I think you might enjoy, and I'd love to have you continue on this crazy journey with me by following me there. Of course I'll be around "as Holly Frost" around the internet, but the Lex Land web assets (sites, social media accounts, etc) will be reassigned for Love Letter Records use.

If you liked the more rock/acoustic folk elements
of the "legacy" Lex Land project,
you might like One Big Dark Room:

If you liked the more R&B/soul tracks
from the "legacy" Lex Land project,
you might like moorhaunter:

(New public releases in the works currently!)

Excepting any re-issues of the first two albums or related material, I will no longer be releasing new music at the Lex Land Bandcamp storefront.

Either way, thank you for reading, thank you for your support, and please know how troubled I was to learn that I would have to bother or inconvenience you over this.

I'm always an email away, so please don't be shy if you'd like to connect: info@lovelettermusic.com

*while this really does squarely land in what I would call “Holly Frost” territory, it was released by my previous label a long time ago under Lex Land and I can’t do anything about it now.

**this does contain a few songs that might be repurposed for Holly Frost use later. It also includes songs I would categorize now as One Big Dark Room catalog songs.

***this recording was included on the One Big Dark Room album Joshua (2020) but I’m going to leave it just because.
