here’s a little live snippet of “Busy Busy Beatrice!”
Today we’re honoring my friend and yours: fellow-Vault-member Brent- who not only submitted this prompt, but who also had, until not too long ago, a precious pet (a hamster named Beatrice, who left this world earlier this year 😭).
During last year’s “7 Songs in 7 Days” challenge, he submitted this prompt, but it hadn’t been selected during last year’s challenge, nor in the monthly lotto since - so I just went for it for our first day of 30 Songs!
Because Beatrice was a tiny creature, I liked the idea of a swingy song with lots of short rhythmic syllables, something that could almost feel like it was from a musical.
I might have taken that inspiration a little too seriously, since I realized shortly into it that it is pretty reminiscent of this song:
The B section is also melodically similar to an old standard called “Too Young” - but you know what?!
I had a deadline- and I decided “done” was better than trying rework the melody!
