Halloween ‘22 Release
“A Welcome End”
Our first “Public Release Project” is (nearly) complete!
[insert huge cheer and wave of relief for me here]
Since I’ve been killing myself trying to get this done in time, I’m short on time so I decided to just talk at you for a few minutes about what I’m sending today instead of spending a few hours putting a proper post together. Forgive me.
The short version is - this is not quite the final version and it is not ready for public release just yet, but I’m here today to deliver the “big whoop” for this month, which is a fully produced recording of one of my favorite songs from last year’s 30 Songs in 30 Days, which happens to be autumnal in theme.
I haven’t released anything publicly for One Big Dark Room in a couple years now so I was hoping that this Halloween could be a good occasion.
My initial ambition of delivering two complete recordings ready for public consumption by the end of this month was overzealous and naive. I should have learned by now that not only is time my enemy, but that my perception of time is my actual arch nemesis and this is just another example of that. I did learn a lot in this process though and am proud of what I do have for you today with this first submission.
Carried Away is queued up to be completed next, but there’s just no way it’s going to get done in the next few days - I probably have at least another 15 hours of unbroken deep work time left on it.
We will still be doing our little “single release” party tonight with our first-ever full-band (although stripped down, trio style) livestream exclusively for you Keyholders tonight at 9PM EST (you can get your access here). I’m looking forward to sharing more complete renditions of these songs that I love so much but which don’t get much attention or collaboration.
Tonight my husband Eduardo Torres will be playing percussion, and we’ll be joined by our friend and bassist Gregory Hagen. This concert is a Keyholder Appreciation Event as a thank you for your recurring contribution, and donations are by no means required. However, if you really dig it, any tips/donations will go toward helping me compensate Greg for sharing his time with us tonight.
Featured on this recording you’ll find:
yours truly - acoustic guitar, vocals, and two other electric guitar parts
Kevin McCollough - ambient sounds and auxiliary guitar
Jacob Hildebrand - lead guitar and more aux guitar soundscape stuff
Eduardo Torres - drums/percussion
Pat Harris - upright bass
Thank you for helping to make this possible this month, and for being the driving force of actually doing something about my creative projects. I hope you love where they’re going…
