We’ve got a release!
As I mentioned in my update yesterday, the original tracks/songs I have been working on grew significantly in scope, and when my internet went out for almost a whole week, I wasn’t able to continue working on them. So out of partial panic and an urgent desire to just get *something* shipped, I managed to track several songs that I can send out for immediate distribution (buying myself some time to complete the other, more produced tracks that I’ve been working on over the last several weeks).
As I also mentioned yesterday, it is important for me that these all feature at least one “overdub” (another instrument besides just (1) my voice and (2) a basic “comp”ing instrument like guitar/ukulele, etc), to separate this new era from the ‘Alone’ era. Because I tracked the vocal and guitar for this song live, at once, and wanted it to all be free/rubato, I did not track this to a click. So that took percussion out of the running for possible options. I went ahead and indulged in a celeste/vibes mellotron sound, bringing a slightly ethereal and vintage vibe to my more modern Jeff-buckley-live-at-sin-e-inspired take on this more obscure vintage Disney song.
This song was written originally to be Alice’s “Over the Rainbow” moment in the 1951 animated feature. The song was sadly cut from the final film, but the melody was repurposed just a few years later with new lyrics for the 1954 Peter Pan (“The Second Star to the Right”). The latter is such a beautiful addition to the canon that I don’t fault them for it, but it still is too bad that the original version is lesser known as the sacrifice - so I’m just dusting it off a bit here to share with the world. I hope you like it!
After I wrap up getting this posted to you, I’ll start working on setting up distribution for it so it can be “live” to the public. Theoretically it could be available almost immediately but it could also take a few days, so we’ll see!
