Another LONG day for me today so… I’m typing this at about 11:58pm my time and you probably won’t see this until tomorrow.
I was up EARLY again to try and get some promo work and prep done before my standing Thursday afternoon gig, was gone from about 11am-4pm, shoved some food in my face briefly and then spent some laborious hours just trying to come up with ANYTHING for today. Finally, feeling spent, I opened up my iPad and started playing on “Chordion” which is an app that imitates an Omnichord (used this for “Better Together” sometime… last year? can’t remember- when I was feeling similarly drained.)
Within just a few a minutes in the new context I had a little something to grab onto, then I spent the next several hours trying to figure out how to get out some basic ideas and fell down some serious rabbit holes.
But the basic gist is that I was channeling early 90s RnB/pop (Ed and I are really into Babyface and the production/songwriting of this era, and this was a common interest before we even met). I realized really close to the end that I was kinda just doing my own version of Mariah Carey’s “Always Be My Baby”… but pretend you didn’t read that and just experience it with fresh ears.
With the lyrics I was just trying to channel the butterfly vibes you feel in the early stages of a crush or a relationship, particularly when you are young and you’ve never experienced reciprocated romantic love before and suddenly you’re on the moon. Long before I drew the post-recording-the-song Carey comparison, while writing I was drawing influence in this regard from some of those great crush/love songs from the 80s and 90s like Madonna’s Crazy For You, Selena’s Dreamin’, and even Mandy Moore’s I’ve Got a Crush. There were a few others but I’m so tired that I can barely piece words together at this point, so can’t recall them.
I know these mixes haven’t been great but I’ve just been under the gun with time to get something churned out without much time to fine-tune. Hope you like this new moorhaunter song! I SUPER dig it ❤️
If I can get my ass out of bed in time to prepare I’ll see you in the morning for Crooner Coffee Hour on Facebook and YouTube! (11:30A ET)
Thank you so much for your support!
There’s still one more chance (just for this week of course, but one a month always) for one of your ideas to be used in a song here at The Vault!
