I’m “engh” about this one right now. I think I might have turned it into something better if I had worked on it a little longer, but it’s nearly actually almost the end of the day and I am so tired and burnt out. The trend so far for 30S30D is I’ve been somewhat ironing songs out before the concerts though when I sit down to make the charts (that’s the stage where I have to get pretty close to a definitive arrangement/version, at least to start with), so it’ll probably be a little more refined by the time I need to debut it live on Tuesday for you.

Mostly it’s the performance I don’t love, just didn’t quite nail the phrasing and didn’t get all the chord changes right, even though they’re just cowboy chords. But that’s also because I didn’t write them down and was trying to multitask too much from memory. BUT, that’s okay, just needed to turn it in.

Also I hate “my ends are all frayed/i’m at the end of my rope” right next to each other in the first verse. It’s lazy and I really don’t like, and try to avoid, using the same word more than once in a song at all (unless it’s like a hook/refrain/repeating section or makes sense based on the song’s thesis…), let alone twice in a row.

This will do for now. My intent was actually to write another country-ish/cowboy-style (“classic country” you could say) tune for the Lex Land project, but the angsty “what’s the point of all this” tone of the lyrics sets this squarely in the OBDR catalogue in my opinion.

Let’s see what tomorrow brings!
