Hang on to your PANTS, kids- this is a cute one.

This is actually one that I started a few days ago, but just couldn’t get hooked into it. What I came up with did include a member’s prompt so I decided to take a look at it one more time rather than starting from scratch during my writing session today. (Also I’m exhausted so if there was a seed there, it would be a little more pleasant than trying to mine for a whole different concept.) I actually felt kinda compelled by the slightly-more-than-half first verse (“A”) I had written and abandoned, and, I think, emboldened by the success of yesterday’s midcentury-style tune, felt like I ought to take another stab at it.

One of the things that was bothering me about this one the first time is, to me, the melody/phrases sounded a little too close to this song that I think is so great: Randy Newman’s “If I Didn’t Have You” (yes, the song from Monsters, Inc… I don’t know if I’ve even seen that movie for sure? maybe when it first came out? but I do love this song).

But, after going back to it, and reviewing the Newman song again, I felt like they were different enough and I shouldn't let that fear keep me from trying.

Since Eduardo and I are now starting to strategize about relocating, we’ve been daydreaming and looking at housing costs and stuff in the new area, and I could tell he was feeling kind of defeated. With these types of “shiny new object” things though, I usually can maintain my optimism: “We’ll figure it out!”

So that was the thought I had going into writing this one. I’m pretty fond of it actually, and this might be my new favorite from the batch this month so far.
