I’m completely exhausted and hanging on for dear life as I’m knee deep in rehearsals for a local professional production of “The Sound of Music”… I’m a principal character in the show in addition to part of the orchestra, AND I’m part of a pre-show segment of entirely separate music. The days are long and I thought there would be a lot more downtime than there is. But I couldn’t let another month go by without sending over something new.
Likely the Rodgers and Hammerstein has permeated my brain to a precipitation point and this happened. On a particularly “down” evening for me after a long hard day (wondering again if I was really cut out for this kind of life!) I started improvising around this theme while driving home… it’s not entirely unlike the Sound of Music movie’s “I Have Confidence” (although a lot less sophisticated), and definitely inspired by a lot of the polka+swing inspired “1-5-1” structures of most of the songs from Sound of Music (Do-Re-Mi, Lonely Goatherd, No Way to Stop It, etc)
I’ve been letting this brew in my mind for a little while now and finally got some words and chords somewhat hashed out. I think this is *close* but certainly not at my usual standard for submission. I had to just do a quick performance on my phone after I got home from rehearsal - but the lyrics were scribbled out on a break in the theatre rehearsal studio hallway. I like the idea of the tag but I didn’t quite nail it on this recording.
