“A Little Fun”

So definitely reusing that same motif that was “bugging” me from “Side by Side” earlier in the week… I feel like I’ve heard it somewhere, but can’t put my finger on it. It kinda sounds like the refrain of I Wish I Were in Love Again (1937) I also used the melody from Till There Was You (1957) as a sort of scaffolding to get me going, though I’ll likely adjust this later on as I iterate upon it over time in performances.
All that aside, this one was kinda fun - definitely was going for a 1920s-40s “keep your chin up, life is short” style-song, which I think I managed. I definitely broke at least one of my own “rules” here (like reusing words more than once), and if I had had more time and was feeling really inspired, I might have been able to finesse this into something a little more refined. That being said, though, a lot of these songs from that era are pretty straightforward, short, and use pretty basic metaphors/similes, so I’m not really too far from the source material, imo.
Lyric-wise, I was definitely influenced by these great songs that cover similar content: Are You Having Any Fun? (1939) and Enjoy Yourself (1949)
