Since we did a Thanksgiving song the other day, I felt like I should go ahead and take a stab at a Christmas song.
I feel like I need some Christmas spirit, y’all - my heart was NOT IN IT and it felt like such a slog, when normally I love to write Christmas tunes. When I was done I was so happy I got through it that I thought… “maybe I should try to write christmas songs all week” - but then thought, “please dear god no don’t do that to yourself.” 🤣
There are a lot of times I’m referencing or alluding to a melody, but this one I might have to actually credit the writers of “Merry Christmas,” because why I wouldn't consider it a straight plagiarism, there are a LOT of melodic similarities…
I would also say the bridge is pretty reminiscent of “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” - though I definitely went into this wanting to write a fast christmas waltz (like that one is), so that’s not a huge surprise.
Of course as I mentioned the other day I’d love to write a bunch more halloween and holiday tunes during this sprint, so I’m happy there’re at least two in the bank now.
