I actually wrote this one a little bit ago but hadn’t had the chance to post it until now - the weeks leading up to Christmas I was either really swamped with commitments or under the weather, and it was challenging to find a long enough “admin” block to get this uploaded and delivered. I did play it at the Vault event last week, but I’ve finally got it for you here 🖤
Here you’ll find the first OBDR song I’ve written since… June? I’ve been in a bit of a Holly-Frost-Swing lately since I’ve been in the exciting early days of launching the new moniker, but also I’ve been trying to work through some mental health stuff and delving deep into sadder topics hasn’t felt… like, emotionally “safe” for me lately? If that makes sense? But at the most recent One Big Dark Room twitch stream this past December 12 it was brought up in the chat (again) that there aren’t currently any OBDR “Christmas”/Winter songs, so I felt it appropriate to try to pen something that might fit.
It’s not specifically about Christmas but that rumination/retrospection we likely all experience at least sometimes around this part of the year. This one isn’t 100% autobiographical though I am drawing from some friendship-relationship personal scenarios here, but sort of putting it a nebulous context of possibly being a romantic relationship. I talked about the inspiration for this tune quite a bit during the stream (replay here) if you’re super curious about it 😊
And that’s a wrap on new songs for 2023! While I didn’t accomplish nearly as much as I would have liked to this past year, I can proudly say I did actually produce quite a lot, and I couldn’t have done any of it without you. 18 new original songs and 6 publicly released singles is not too shabby, and I’m super excited for what the future holds - big plans for this next year 🎉
