Hello November!
The latest:
Last month absolutely FLEW by but I am pretty satisfied with my output as far as streams and adding new songs to the request list for October this year. There were a few that I had really been wanting to add for even several years that finally made it through, so I'm happy there!
The plan was to take a little "breather" (sort of) after the last full week of October to (1) play catch up on life and other work stuff, (2) celebrate my wedding anniversary and actually have a day or two to rest, (3) get to work on getting some recordings done.
Steps 1 and 2 were pretty successful, but there was a big bottleneck to my recording process that needed to be addressed, and I had underestimated the time it would take to resolve (big surprise 🙄) ... and that was that the studio room was... not a *disaster*, but definitely not conducive to doing good work.
Mostly, in my rush to "get back to streaming" earlier this year, I never finalized certain gear components, configurations, and connections, so there was some serious cable management that needed re-doing, and doing. There were also some decisions about setup and organization that I just never made in the rush to get it minimally operational all those months ago, and as I'm sure you've experienced in your own life, those little "make-it-work-for-now" band-aids tend to grow in size and attract more problems and clutter. That really needed dealing with because it's been crazymaking for me for months on end, and unfortunately that took up all the time I had allotted for recording after Halloween... it was a big project.
So the last few days I've been trying to finish that up while keeping up with the most-basic admin of running my life and business, which has left not much time for anything else.
I do REALLY have to keep my head down and focus on any of these Q4 and '24 Q1 releases I want to submit, because with holiday delays the distribution deadlines are all coming up in the next couple weeks.
October Recap:
I managed to continue the tradition of adding at least one original Halloween/Autumn song to my catalogue, this year's was a vampire-inspired swingy tune called "By the Light of the Blood Red Moon" with its titular prompt submitted by Skye Z.
Last month there were some behind-the-scenes things that got some attention, it was a heavy IRL gig stretch for me, and I hustled hard to try to add a bunch of new songs for the halloween season this year (I think I got around to about 10!). Since it takes a minimum of 30 minutes to chart one song (up to a few hours) this was a solid sprint. 🎃
The plan for this month:
As far as moving the needle on projects, now I'm really under the gun to make more progress on these recordings if I want to get anything released before this last quarter (or the first couple weeks of Q1 2024). My intent is to also spend a chunk of time "batching" content during this sprint so that I can get ahead a little bit and have some stuff out there to support the releases.
All of that unfortunately means that I'm going to extend my Twitch-streaming hiatus a bit longer. I'm hoping to get back to Friday morning streams for 11/17, but it might have to wait until December 1. I'm also planning on putting a pause on Disney Day broadcasts (those have been Monday afternoons) for a little bit to give me another block to work on recordings. Restart day TBA, but most likely after the new year. (Of course it's more fun to hang out and play songs for you online, but I need to buckle down and make sure other parts of "the machine" are operating as they should so that I can keep hanging out with you online!)
Related to content-creation and posting: I finally got around to implementing something that we've been kicking around the community for a while - setting up of a "virtual street team" so to speak: a communication system for any of you who might want to help out on social media. Basically, if you join the Discord and opt-in to relevant notifications (info on how to do that here), I can clue you in on what I'm releasing online and you can help me pretty much in-real-time by checking it out, watching it all the way through, leaving a comment, etc (based on the KPI objectives for each platform). Of course there is absolutely no pressure to participate, but if you'd like to, it's a really easy and free way to support what I'm making.
