Oh, My! [Rick Alvin]

August Cover Video

Because my sophomore studio album, “Were My Sweetheart to Go…” is turning 10 this month, I wanted to do a related video. This is the opening track from the album, and is the only song on the album I didn’t write - this one was actually written by a friend of mine, Rick Alvin (highly recommend you check out his albums if you’re unfamiliar).

You can start here: https://rickalvin.bandcamp.com/album/lady-portrait

I was completely obsessed with his version of this song from the first moment I heard it (wayyyyy back in 2007? 2008?), and begged him to let me record it for “Sweetheart” (I really didn’t need to beg, he’s one of the sweetest souls ever and was happy to hear I liked the song so much).

I've steered away from performing this song live because the production (hand claps, background vocals) etc really make the song sparkle, and no matter what we tried, even in full-band scenarios, it just never quite worked live. For this video, I considered what I might do with it if I were to hear this for the first time, and, of course, I had to "Bossa"-ify it...

I'm very much looking forward to playing this and ALL the songs from Sweetheart (plus a few) for you this coming Monday to celebrate the anniversary.

Enjoy!

❤️Lex
