Getting this one done was definitely a challenge - this morning was a last-chance to get some errands run in between other commitments, so I only had a few hours before heading out to an IRL gig to try to put a dent into shipping this…

when I was lying awake earlier than I really needed to way too early this morning before getting up, I got some great idea for a moorhaunter song that was sort of in this style… the melody escaped my memory by the time I was up and out of the room enough to possibly get anything “to tape,” but when I finally had a chance later to work on today’s song I tried to emulate the vibe of what I had heard in my mind hours before. It’s been a while since moorhaunter got any love so I was willing to jam with it.

I feel… like… weirdly uncomfortable writing “sexy” songs now that I’m over 35? I dunno. I wasn’t really trying to go there but that’s where the song took me, so, there I went. The energy of this was some weird iteration of a slowed-down/ballad version of a club track from like 2003? 😜 I have no idea where it came from but it’s kinda fun.

Despite my very limited time, I actually started setting up/producing a “track” (a beat and other instruments) for this, but I didn’t have enough time to develop it enough before I had to stop for the day. Ended up feeling like the acoustic demo would actually be a better representation, so that’s what I’m posting here. After “killing” the discretionary time I had after writing making the track that I’m not showing you right now 🤣 I had to jet to my IRL event, so I had to wait until I came home again to set up the post/email to deliver today’s tune.

Definitely some musical ideas have been “recycled” into this (unintentionally) from other previous creations, bonus points to whomever can figure out what they might be. That would be very impressive.

I really have to approach anything I’m writing with the attitude of “it’s okay if this ends up being garbage, just show up and make something.” So while it’s too fresh/new and not fleshed out enough for me to have a real opinion about it yet, there could be something here with more time/revision/intention.

This is definitely also an indication that after getting through some much-needed Holly Frost tracking and consequent releases, I am really ready for a palette cleansing of doing something stylistically different. Excited to see what else comes from this week’s songs and what we end up making collaboratively the rest of this year … this is an exciting time!
