With our “Best of LL” Vault Concert deadline looming over me yesterday, I was really hoping I could get a new “Lex Land” song in the bank for this month. But, not gonna lie, I’ve been so damned tired and just, like, kinda down lately that I needed to just brood a little and write something slow and sombre without all that added pressure.
This one (by accident) sounds a little too like “Change, Everlasting” which was the last new OBDR song back in November of last year, but, oh well. I had a hard time figuring out how I wanted to approach/incorporate the prompt (“alone but never lonely”). I started out thinking of someone I know who has seemingly put up a permanent wall around themselves to protect, presumably, from any kind of intimacy that might leave them vulnerable, but who always seems to have someone “around.” But then that led me to consider moments in my life where I was rarely “alone” but always “lonely.” So I considered these two situations and sort of merged them, how they’re kind of two sides of the same coin.
I think I like this one! And just in time, too, because we FINALLY have our June ONE BIG DARK ROOM event tonight (live, for free, on Twitch at 8PM EST), so I’ll be able to debut this one for you live for the first time tonight!
This particular recording also marks another big milestone because I finally have a recording rig set up again that is fairly easy to use and sounds pretty good without having to do a lot of set-up/teardown in between. With all the changing of gear/tech I’ve been doing this year to try and upgrade the audio/sound/instrumentation of the different live stream/project channels, my recording set up has been in flux and I am really happy to have come to at least a temporary solution for this problem. With that, I also managed to get you a proper demo for last month’s song, “Why Shouldn’t I Try?” that is now available in the Vault playlists and for download on the original post for that song.
