Hello July!

Updates and Housekeeping

Hi friends!

I’m hanging in there. I hope you are, too. The madness of doing this production is finally starting to level out and I’m just barely starting to get a grasp again on the rest of my life after having to put literally everything BUT the show on the backburner.

The new Alone collection, “Alone: The Sound of Music Collection” is still in progress but I’m hoping I’ll be able to get the digital copies to pre-orderers before the week is out, or by the middle of next week. (Here’s the post where I announced it ICYMI.)

This past week I got to add another injury to my list of “holy shit my body is falling apart” and my right hand is… I don’t know… sprained? Something. But it’s bad. It’s definitely some problem from overuse so I’m in a wrist splint whenever I can be until it starts to feel more normal. Gripping, twisting, squeezing, and pulling motions of any kind are particularly painful (and result in an uncomfortable grinding/crunching), though there is just a consistent dull ache even when it’s not in use. Point being, I’m moving a little slower on things than I wanted to, and of course I’m trying not to do any further damage to my voice/hand/body/foot (did I mention I hurt my foot? 😭) by not overdoing it and trying to actually rest in as much as is possible on my days off from the theatre. (Like exactly what I didn’t do last week, which set me back a couple days.)

So, with that in mind, there will be NO livestream events tonight, although we do typically do something on Tuesdays. I do intend to return to Crooner Coffee Hour this week, but my voice and hand were in too poor shape for like-shenanigans last Friday, July 1st.

Some housekeeping real quick:
While this is the monthly note in which I make sure we’re all on the same page about the current month’s Vault concert, I gotta be honest: I don’t know how much value we’re getting out of the monthly Vault concerts. I try my best to make them fun and unique from our other broadcast adventures the rest of the month, but I feel like I’m always struggling to prepare for them and they never really turn out how I wanted because I spread myself too thin, and the ideas I’ve come up with don’t seem to be enticing enough to get a good gaggle of us together for these events. I recognize that that is all my doing and I need to take action to improve upon this.

Here’s my proposed, possibly temporary, solution: I will properly plan and promote special ticketed livestream events throughout the year when I have a really good reason/idea for one (like special guests, release anniversaries, release parties, etc), to which you will have complimentary access included with your membership. So instead of 12 sessions where I’m struggling to put them together that aren’t well-attended, perhaps we/I can instead create 4-8 really special events throughout the year where we can get together to celebrate and really make it count.

Unless I hear a resounding “NO” to this idea from the community, I think this is a good plan for at least the foreseeable future. Additionally, once Sound of Music is over, I really want to get on a more regular livestream schedule (closer to what we were doing in 2021 but adding the other two channels into the mix… ideally a weekly OBDR stream, and try to get the LexLandMusic and Moorhaunter channels streaming a couple of times a week each). A more intense (but consistent) free-to-watch livestream schedule would not only make scheduling a monthly event more challenging because we would always have to move something around, but would also drive down the need for an EXTRA event since there will be so many more opportunities to get together throughout the month. Also, once this production is over, I would like to reinstitute the monthly cover song deliverable and tweak/improve the user-experience of The Vault even more to compensate for that lost “value” of your membership.

We do have a BIG event coming up in the not too distant future: this year’s Seven Songs in Seven Days! While there is some scheduling stuff that needs to be confirmed before I can give a solid date, I am hoping to run the campaign from Saturday September 3rd to Friday September 9 (so our concert for that would either be Friday September 9 or Saturday September 10, or at least somewhere in that zone). So that will likely be our next Vault exclusive broadcast event.

However, with the pressure of a July Vault Concert off my plate, I’d like to put an OBDR July event on the books for July 12, and a Moorhaunter event on July 26. I will probably need several days at the beginning of August to physically recover from what I’ve done so far this summer, but intend to pick up with our new streaming schedule (as mentioned above, where there will be broadcasts most weekdays between the three channels probably for the rest of the year) starting around August 15 or so.

In the meantime, I’ll be working hard on getting out the new collection, continuing to fine-tune the sound and other production elements of the different channels (we had an awesome sounding OBDR event last week!), improve your experience at The Vault in general, and start to execute on other content ideas for us to play with and enjoy in Q4.

I will continue to keep the event calendar here in The Vault and at http://lexlandmusic.com/live current to the best of my ability, and, of course, for up-to-the-minute announcements you can join us at our forum at Discord to get notifications and reminders in real-time.

I’ve got 26 more performances of The Sound of Music here in Austin (we close after our two shows on Sunday July 24). If any of you are interested in attending, you can grab tickets at: zachtheatre.org/soundofmusic

Our next Vault-exclusive concert will take place in
early September 2022
to celebrate the end of this year’s
SEVEN SONGS IN SEVEN DAYS
