Hello April!

Concert: 04/25/22

04/18/2022 UPDATE: This month’s Vault concert has been pushed to the following Monday, 4/25/22!

Spring has arrived, and I hope Quarter 1 of 2022 was kind to you.

Personally, I’m still in a transitory phase somewhere between burnout and some form of recovery, and I’ve been trying to use joy as my compass.

I can’t say I’m super excited about the weather turning warmer or that I’m looking forward to the return of summer at any moment, but April and May will be a kind of calm before the storm for me as I’ll be undertaking a new kind of challenge and commitment this summer (performance-related, but more on that later).

The end of March took me from Austin to visit some family in another state, and while it was nice to see them, it was kind of challenging emotionally. Surely some of you can relate.

As is typical for me, I was hoping that a few days bookending the trip could provide a little “chill”/recovery time, but between getting there and back, and other commitments, there was almost no downtime I’m coming back yet again not really feeling like I got a break. Alas. Hopefully I’ll be able to carve out some pockets over the next few weeks.

We’re getting back into the live-broadcast flow tonight with the return of Disney Day, where I play vintage Disney tunes by your request for free on Twitch. It’s really fun and I’d love to see you there. You can tune in even without a Twitch account (though it’s more fun if you sign up) by moseying over to http://twitch.tv/lexlandmusic around 8PM EST Monday nights.

The first Tuesday of the month is also typically the big night for our monthly One Big Dark Room live event, where we get dark, wear black, and cry our eyes out together over a moody, more-concert-like-broadcast on the One Big Dark Room channel - our April event is tomorrow night, 4/5/22 at 8PM EST, also for free, also on Twitch.

To cap off/celebrate my 2022-first-quarter-Moorhaunter-bootcamp (our first Twitch-affiliate stream will be 4/12 at 8PM EST!), I’ll be digging up, revisiting, revising, and putting together live arrangements of as many moorhaunter original tunes as I can for the April Keyholder Concert (4/19). There are soooo many of these songs that none of you have heard yet that have been collecting dust for years, and I’m excited to pull them out and polish them up.

Of course, you’re able to see a detailed view of all of our upcoming events at any time from your Vault Homepage, or at the “live” tab at my site.

MARCH RECAP:

Here in March at The Vault, I wrote a kind of cynical and sombre song for moorhaunter called “On and On” which questions our autonomy and free will in a world where so much seems to be decided for us based on the culture and family we are born into. It’s available for you to check out here.

For the March Keyholder concert - we celebrated the anniversary of the very first “7 Songs in 7 Days” with a live playthrough of all of those songs in reverse chronological order. Back in 2017 for the inaugural challenge, we came out of it with one “Lex Land” song, and 3 each moorhaunter and One Big Dark Room tunes making up the rest. You can watch the replay of the concert here - just scroll all the way down to the concert archive list and click on the March date and it will direct you ❤️

In preparation for the March concert, I managed to migrate all those seven songs and their original posts over here to The Vault. While doing that migration I came to find that there are a total of FIVE HUNDRED FOURTEEN POSTS that were published at Patreon between 2016 and 2021. Surely only about half of those are some interesting or enjoyable content (the others are probably updates or reminders about other things), but it made me realize that it will be a significant endeavor to get EVERYTHING moved over. Despite that, there are currently over FIVE HOURS of original songs available for you to check out in the “Original Song A-Z” Master Vault playlist on the primary playlist page.
