Hello February!
Concert: 2/22/22
Things are not going according to plan, but, hey, that’s life, ain’t it?
I wanted to get Crooner Coffee Hour kicked off again for 2022 this week starting today, but realized that I still had wayyyyy to much to do to prepare for a proper start. Defeated, I resigned to delaying the new season until 2/25, and prepared to just replace this morning’s CCH with another moorhaunter stream. I awakened at 5am today and prepared a new song for the stream, had everything set up and ready to go, and right before I walked away to put my face on, the internet died. Eduardo and I tried to diagnose the problem to no avail, and now we’re awaiting another visit from a technician tomorrow…
I am confident it will get sorted out but am VERY happy I didn’t stay up all night to prepare for CCH and then not even be able to go live after all. So I guess it’s good I trusted my intuition.
So, that’s the first update. Crooner Coffee Hour will return on 2/25, and we’ll continue to have only moorhaunter streams until that week (2/21) with Disney Day as the first Lex Land event that Monday.
You might be wondering, “hmm… that’s still a few weeks away, what gives?” Next weekend I’ll be performing as a special guest for Bob Schneider’s annual Valentine’s Day concert - it’s a big thing I’ve done every year since 2011 (excepting last year of course) and that always takes up a good amount of time and resources leading up to it with charting, rehearsals, and merch prep.
A few days later, I’m flying to NYC to perform a few songs during a small talk-event at TED Headquarters in Soho. I’ve known about it for a while, but there was some uncertainty about whether or not it could go ahead on the predetermined date with Covid restrictions. But it looks like it’s all squared away now and it’s really going to happen.
It will be recorded on February 17, and then broadcast as a livestream event later (I believe in March) - so when I have a link I will share it with you. I’m looking forward to getting to travel again because my spirit direly needs the novelty. Fortunately, Eduardo had some flyer miles and will be able to go with me, which turns the whole thing from a scary work thing that I would be really nervous about into more of a fun adventure. I haven’t seen any of my east coast friends since at least 2017, so I’m excited to reconnect with them, especially after this past year of isolation and worrying I’ve destroyed all my close relationships with neglect and overwork.
After getting back I’m going to take that weekend to recover (and, hopefully, unpack) and then we can start up with the normal routine.
Thanks for your patience and grace while I try to figure out this balance thing. This year has been interesting already - my conscious effort to pare down self-assignments in lieu of focusing on my mental and emotional wellness, coupled with finally treating my late-in-life-diagnosed-ADHD has shown me just how much I was drowning before.
It’s amazing how much more functional I’ve become with proper treatment and closer-to-sufficient rest. It’s also amazing to see, now that the fog of dysfunction has lifted, just how behind I was. I spent much of my time “off” over the holidays unpacking and setting things up from when we moved into this house A YEAR AGO. And I’m still not done. But I’m trying to take it bit by bit.
Setting up the new moorhaunter channel has been good for my soul and it’s been nice to try to find the fun and joy of making music again ALONGSIDE ticking off boxes and getting things done, rather than just the latter.
So long as the internet situation gets resolved by Monday, we’ll have three more moorhaunter streams in February, and then we won’t have another moorhaunter event until March 8. I hope you’ll come by sometime next week and check out what I’ve come up with.
Otherwise, I’ll catch you for our Vault Concert on February 22. I intend to perform a set of original love songs to mark the valentine occasion.
