Hello July!
The latest:
Between the new twitch streaming schedule and in-real-life gigs I’ve been trying to fit in little bits of the HUGE name change transition project in the small pockets where I can. It’s going very slowly, but I’ve got a big looming deadline coming up: I’d like to make it all official/pubic by/on July 28, 2023.
One large element of the rebrand was: remove all the “holly frost”-style recent albums (everything after and including A Valentine EP, excepting the acoustic anniversary additions of the early albums) from the Lex Land catalogues on all the DSPs (spotify, Apple Music, etc), and move them over to a new Holly Frost profile. The good news: I managed to migrate Valentine EP and Aren’t We All? but, for reasons I won't bore you with, I may not be able to upload the rest under the new name (at least right now).
This was upsetting at first, but shortly after realizing this, I actually got excited. It will be a chance to deliver new material with a fresh perspective, and I can keep the “Alone” albums as special direct-only single album products (and the originally envisioned “Alone Box Set”) for the time being.
This means, though, that I need to shift my recording priorities for a bit, and probably move away from doing cover recordings for the other projects (moorhaunter and One Big Dark Room) as I originally planned to do in 2023. While I’m working on doing the brand transition, I’ll be trying to get some brand-spanking-new Holly Frost recordings done and published for public consumption.
My big ambition is to get a couple of them done and out before or on the July 28 date, just so there’s some stuff in there when I make the announcement. Contenders for this: Let’s Start Again, and possibly One Small Thing. I think those are strong enough “back-catalogue” songs that are recent and contextually relevant, but not so special to me that I would be bummed later for putting them into a rushed production. If you have any other ideas for original songs that might fit that bill, though, let me know in the comments below!
June Recap:
I have managed to keep up with the new original song post deliverables this year (except for April, I missed that one 😬), so despite my currently massive workload, I was able to deliver a new One Big Dark Room song for you last month (It Was a Light).
Event + Broadcast Schedule:
I’ve put a new Twitch schedule into action! I’ve been streaming on Mondays for Mouseketeer Monday, reinstated a Twitch-version of Crooner Coffee Hour on Fridays, and added a Tea Time stream back into the fold on Tuesdays. It’s been awesome to get to connect with y’all on a regular basis again after being a little sporadic after the Big Burnout of Q4 2021.
Depending on how challenging managing my time gets between now and the great deadline, though, I might have to temporarily pause the Tuesday afternoon streams. I’ll be live today and then I’ll have to reassess what I can pull off for the remainder of the month. I just don’t have any other blocks where I can fit in recording/editing time, and I think I need to prioritize getting those done leading up to July 28.
I’d like to try to reinstall the monthly Vault-exclusive broadcast-event, “Debut Night,” where I can do live-premieres of the new stuff, catch you up on the latest progress, and get some feedback from you for future projects. The link is available for you at the concert tab in the menu.
Lastly, we have our July One Big Dark Room livestream event tomorrow, July 12, 2023 over on the One Big Dark Room Twitch channel (8PM ET). Incidentally, this stream marks our two-year affiliate anniversary for that channel! 🎉 I regret to tell you it totally crept up on me so I don’t have anything remarkable planned, but, who knows, maybe I will think of something!
A lot of exciting stuff coming up and it will be interesting to see what happens during this new upswing! I definitely feel reenergized and excited for the future again. Thank you for giving me a helping hand through this with your love and support.
